Conflicts between the Jews and the Roman government were common, and this came to a climax in AD 70, when the Roman army invaded Jerusalem and destroyed the temple. Over one million people died in the revolt and many of the remaining Jews were expelled and harsh measures and taxes were imposed upon them.
