Marcia Fairrow is a hospital chaplain who always found purpose in ministering to and being physically present with those who are hurting. But when COVID hit her small Detroit hospital, it was the first time in her career that she didn’t know what to do. She couldn’t hold the hands of the dying and didn’t know how to comfort their family members, especially when she needed comforting too. In the middle of her feelings of helplessness, God reminded her of two words: “Jesus wept.” It was healing for Marcia to remember that Jesus mourned with the grieving, and she could mourn with those she served while still speaking God’s peace to them.
